Summer Camps Are Here!

UTC Youth Programs

About

Our Youth Program began on February 23, 2021 before in person activities had resumed. We held our classes over Zoom which was a unique, but incredible experience. This program taught  kids basic theatre skills including expression through voice and body language, acting and choreography taught by our instructors Maddie Boyd and Sarah Covault.

Since our first workshop, our youth program has truly expanded to a degree we never thought imaginable in just one year. We have taught over 900 children in the Ventura County area. We’ve partnered with local elementary schools, the City of Ventura, and other nonprofit organizations. Our teachers are currently teaching musical theatre workshops in Ventura’s Title 1 elementary schools, introducing hundreds of children to the many aspects of musical theatre.

Our Youth Programs include camps, workshops, and classes for the rising stars in your life. With high caliber teachers, an emphasis on creativity, and a whole lot of fun, we welcome young artists! Beginners or bona-fide pros alike can register for our classes. Our summer camp culminates with a performance.

We strive to continue to spread the love of theatre to all of Ventura’s aspiring stars.

Annie Jr. Camp Q&A

What is Unity Theatre Collective?

The Unity Theatre Collective is a non-profit theatre company established in 2018 by Laura Covault and Layla Perez. UTC offers theatre and music performances and children’s classes. UTC instructors have degrees in the performing arts and extensive experience working with young performers. Visit our About page for more information.

Who can be in this Annie Jr camp?

Anyone ages 7-14 is welcome in this camp. We welcome all experience levels. We have found that mixing seasoned performers with beginners allows for an enriching experience for all involved.

Why 4 weeks?

In the first three weeks of camp, we will be focusing on learning our material and rehearsing. During these weeks, we will also do crafts, play games, and have fun with our friends. The three-week rehearsal process will allow us to rehearse the show, while also breaking up our day with these fun activities.

During the last week of camp, we will have dress rehearsals, where we will rehearse with all costumes, props, and costume changes. We will also have tech rehearsal, where we will use sound equipment and run our show like it’s the real performance.

Having 4 weeks allows us to fully prepare for the show and allows campers to experience costumes and tech, which are integral parts of musical theatre.

Auditions?

We will be having auditions on the first day of camp.

Vocal Auditions:

Auditions will consist of a brief 30-60 second song of your choice. This can be any song you feel comfortable singing, even Happy Birthday is fine! If you would like to use karaoke/instrumental, please email the link to it to education@unitytheatrecollective.com

Acting Auditions:

We will also be reading short scenes. Campers will be given these scenes and will have time to rehearse with other campers before doing their acting audition.

Scholarships?

We have scholarships available based on financial need. If interested, please indicate on the registration form scholarship question that you would like to apply for a scholarship and you will be sent more information on how to apply.
